You can choose your area or any area covered by the app for that matter. So if you're watching a Live Report on the news and you want to be tapped in to what's going on in that area, go ahead and turn right in.
You pick your feed by state and then city.

Pretty amazing app. Well worth the download.

Is this just the public channels the police use? Will dispatch have any private channels? crooks n bad guys could use this to evade law, & victimize the weak. Not sure if this is a good thing. -krazykat

What did you actually like that made you pick this particular Police scanner to review over the more popular "Scanner 911" that's also on itunes?
No other reason than it was the first one I tried, does everything that I want and I like the user interface.
