As a frequent traveler there are times where I have no connectivity to the internet. As much progress is being made to equip planes with WiFi, I have yet to be on one that actually has a WiFi connection. Although I have a really good RSS reader on my iPhone that can cache my favorite sites, there are times when I run across articles on the web that are not in my regular feeds. These are articles of interest that I may not have the time to read right then and there. Luckily there's an App for that.
Read It Later Pro let's me take it all with me
Read It Later Pro works as a standalone App that basically allows you to download webpages and read them later offline. Simple concept and it's great that this App does that. However, Read It Later Pro goes way beyond that. My favorite way to use the App is in conjunction with my free account at readitlaterlist.com. Most times I run across sites that I just don't have time to read right then and there while I'm on my computer. So with the click of a button in my web browser toolbar I can add the page right then and there to my account on readitlaterlist.com. Once I bring up the App (say before getting on a plane) and hit the sync button, it will download all of those pages into my iPhone for reading while in flight and offline. You can even email links to the site for adding without having to go through your browser first. There are several ways to integrate this service into the different sites you already work with including Google Reader. You can add a link right in Google Reader that will send any article to Read It Later. This way you get the best of both worlds.
You get the full experience including graphics as if you had gone to it just then in Safari.

The Pro version offer tons of sharing options to share the stuff you're reading with others.
The Bottom Line
This is a great App for me. Often times I come across articles either in my RSS feeds or via links sent to me by friends and colleagues that I just don't have time to read on the spot. Now I have an easy way not only to remember them, but to take them with me and have something to do during those those dead times with no internet connectivity. While I love my RSS reader, I don't subscribe to the feeds of every site in the world and some sites don't even have RSS feeds. So Read It Later Pro fills the gaps!
Yes, there is also a FREE version that you can get here. The Free Version lacks:
- Tap to Save Bookmarklet: Lightning fast batching of links directly from mobile Safari.
- Fullscreen Reader: Expands the reader to the full edges of the screen
- Share: Share pages from your list on major bookmarking services/social networks.
- Send to App: Send links directly to popular apps like Twittelator, Tweetie, TwitterFon and more
- One Touch Rotation Lock: AFter rotating the phone, you can lock the orientation, perfect for reading while laying down.
- Automark as Read: Allow marking pages as read as you read them
- Unread Count: shows the number of items in your list from your home screen

I like to use it the other way. I often use a RSS reader on my iPhone, but when I get something I really want to read on a big screen, or has flash, I send it to Safari, and then use the Read It Later bookmarklet. Then the item show up on my much larger screen at home.
