One of the app categories where there are a big field of apps to choose from, is in the note taking field. One of all apps these apps is Awesome Note, combining both the note taking and task management into one single app.

The Interface

There is perhaps a reason why the app is called “Awesome Note”. It is pretty awesome, especially the interface! It does not adhere to the Apple interface guidelines and does not really look like the typical iPhone app. I do mean that in the best way possible.

See, there are a few apps that can get away with using a different interface than the standard, usually as long as it is useful and looks stunning, Awesome Note is definitely on of them, with a gorgeous interface.

Syncing

For any notes application on my iPhone/iPod Touch, I require them to be able to sync with at least Google Docs. I have never been a big fan of the built-in notes app and even when I sync them manually, getting them in Mail.

No, I like Google Docs and Awesome Note supports that as well as Evernote! So if you are an Evernote user, you can get the nice interface of Awesome Note while keeping you data in the Evernote system. Neat!

Working with Notes

Adding notes is simple. When you first launch the application, you can use the main graphic to create a new note, or the button down in the right hand corner. Using either a random background, or the one you have set in your settings, you can begin to type and create your note.

You can using a few buttons while working in a note, set it to be read-only, edit the background or font, email it, move it, remove it or even add photos or a map to the note.

Organizing Notes

The application has support for folders, each with their own name, color and icon. Even though the front screen is only limited to five folders, a quick flick to the left will go to the second “mini-homescreen” where more folders can be displayed.

To-Do List Support

You can actually make simple to-dos within Awesome Note too, which is in my opinion both good and bad. It feels like we are getting into a bit of bloatware and I really like my to-do application of choice for to-dos and would like Awesome Note to focus on just notes, however it is there.

What this will allow you to do is set a due date for what the note encompasses. So if you have a note detailing something that you have to do, you can set a date when this is due too. Your Awesome note icon will show a badge with the number of due items too.

Conclusion

Awesome Note is my application of choice at the moment when it comes to note taking. It has a gorgeous interface with an icon that fits on my home screen, two areas which are important for the apps. Even more importantly however is the features and with dual syncing, Awesome Note is an application I highly recommend.

I’ve also been using this as my note taking app on the iPhone.
I just wish they would hurry up and release an iPad version soon ….
