twitter

My favorite iPhone Twitter client (Tweetie 2) was recently purchased by Twitter, Inc. Looks like I wasn't the only one that thought it was GREAT! That's right! Twitter bought Tweetie 2 to make it their official Twitter client for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. They just released the first "rebranded" version this week and more importantly now it's FREE! Although I felt that feature set of Tweetie 2 was worth paying for (obviously since I paid for it), I'm happy to report that now everyone get's this great App as a free download.

Twitter has everything I want (almost)

I've tried several Twitter clients for iPhone and iPad and I just like the layout and feature set of Twitter. It's fast and has all the features I wanted. Well almost all. The only thing missing now is a native iPad version. Sure there are other ones already out there for the iPad that take advantage of the larger iPad screen size and I'm using them, but I still miss Tweetie 2 (Twitter). Twitter 3.0 is more than just a new logo and name. They imporved the Searh feature so that now you can search all tweets and find users in the same spot. You can also view Top Tweets and browse suggested users. You can even use Twitter without having to have a Twitter account. Yep, that's right. If you just want to see and read people's tweets, you can do so with this App without signing in. Twitter supports multiple accounts, lists, photo uploading, geotagging and every other feature of Twitter on the desktop. In many ways I find it easier to use than tweeting on my desktop via a web browser.

If you're looking for a GREAT Twitter Client for your iDevice, this is it!

  1. Hi Terry.
I’ve lost count how many Twitter type Apps i have installed on my iPhone now, all with bits I like in each so I’ve never been able to settle on just the one.

I’ve now downloaded Tweetie 2 following your recommendation at love it! Real easy to use, great looking interface and the best of all is the way it notifies you of any @ mentions or Direct Messages with the blue indicator at the bottom of the screen.

Finally I think I’ve got the ‘one stop’ Twitter App.

    Cheers and thanks again,
    Glyn

This one doesn’t do anything for me.

I had been waiting to try Tweetie 2 since there was no free version of it. Now that the official Twitter app is out, I really don’t see what all the fuss was about. It seemed a bit cumbersome, and with no column view or tap functionality, I really don’t see where or how it outshines over other apps.

My favorite Twitter app is Twitterrific. I absolutely love the single-, double-, and triple-tap functionality, the ability to start your timeline where you left it, ability to quickly click on links instead of having to open the “tweet” to have any functionality. And, who doesn’t love the bird chirp when there are new Tweets? But it does lack columns and FB integration.

I currently use HootSuite Lite and am thinking of moving up to the paid version now that I have tried the Tweetie 2/Twitter app. If HootSuite added the tap functionality, or if Twitterrific added columns/FB, I’d be in heaven. For now I’ll just stick with these two.
