Teamviewer (FREE!) does all this and more for free (for non-commercial use). Excellent program and does NAT transversal etc.. Couldn’t be easier.

I have been using VNC lite if I need to connect to my mac. I think it works well and its free. I don’t use it while connecting to our PC SBS. I use a RDC client for the iPad called WinAdmin for that. Great writeup. I’ll have to give your recommendation a try. Jarred

I have a similar app called logmein. When I tested logmein using a browser version, I could actually use my iPhone as a touch pad mouse with air mouse installed on my iPhone and i could more easily edit photos using the iPhone as a touch pad mouse. But when I dropped thirty bucks on the iPad version of logmein, i was not able to connect my iPhone and Use it with the iPad. I am sure I can get this to work if I just work at it, but I bet this could be something you could try with desktop connect.
