With the recent issues plaguing the built in alarm on the iPhone many people are looking for an alternative to turn to. Even tech savvy guys like Terry’s good buddy Scott Kelby was affected, he missed his flight last weekend because of the Apple alarm issue. Below are 5 alarms that work, and work well.
Touch LCD-Designer Speaking Clock

Want to not only see your time, but hear it too? This is the App for your iOS device. Touch LCD is a full featured clock/alarm option that not only displays your time, but tells the time out loud when the screen is touched. Other notable features include gentle waking (fades in the alarm/music), proximity snoozing (using the proximity sensor to detect your hand to snooze the alarm), music alarm (using music from your built in iPod App), and full iOS4 multitasking support (allows for the alarm to sound when App is running in background). The really nice thing about Touch LCD is that it’s a universal binary (one App for all iOS devices).

Alarm Night Clock with Music

Featured in our recent 100 Best Apps of 2010(http://www.bestappsite.com/2011/01/03/the-100-best-apps-of-2010/), Alarm Night Clock With Music is a really easy to use clock/alarm App that has all of the features you would expect. With multiple display options, iPod App integration, and multiple alarm functions, this App is great for someone that wants a no frills clock App that does what it’s supposed to do every day. Just like the Touch LCD App above, Alarm Night Clock with Music is a universal binary; so one App fee for both your iPhone/iPod Touch and your iPad.

Nightstand Central

Nightstand Central is my new favorite alarm clock App. This alarm App has a ton of great features, and is fully iOS4 integrated. Some of the top features include: landscape and portrait orientation, music alarms, alarm fade in, current weather at your location, customizable backgrounds with the option to use your own photos, flashlight and much, much more. The only thing that I wish was different about this App is the fee. It’s not a universal binary so there is a separate fee for both the iPhone/iPod Touch App, and the iPad App.

Nightstand Central FREE
If you don’t need the Music function, or the ability to use your own images as a background, and you don’t mind an ad or two, Nightstand Central Free might be the perfect App to replace your Apple installed alarm. With most of the great features of the full version including the current weather at your location, and both portrait and horizontal support, Nightstand Central Free version is a great alternative to the built in alarm.

BONUS PICK
iHome+Sleep

Long time iPod speaker maker iHome has come out with their own FREE Alarm App that is really designed to work with their App Enhanced Clock/Speaker Systems such as the iA5 and iA100. However, even if you don't have their hardware you can still use the App on your iDevice as is to set alarms and even keep stats of your sleep and wake times. There are also some weather and social media features such as waking up to status updates from Facebook and tweeting that you just went to bed. Thankfully the social media features are OPTIONAL! The new version 2.1, which was released last night promises to fix several bugs and adds new features. It's worth a look!
