Adobe has released their Adobe Ideas app that was last week released for the iPad, for the iPhone and iPod Touch as well. It is free and available on the App Store, letting you use your device as a digital sketchbook.

If you are on the iPhone but not the iPad, give the app a try and see how you like to sketch using your fingers on the touch screen.

tweetie

The popular Twitter client for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Tweetie has been acquired by Twitter, developer Loren Brichter announced on his website yesterday. He will begin a position in Twitter's mobile team and the iPhone application will be renamed Twitter for iPhone and be made available for free in the coming weeks.

Perhaps this also means that an iPad client will be available sooner, now that he is part of a team? Many are already longing to see the application on their iPads and for Twitter now, this would be a smart move to make, quickly.

At its special event today, Apple has just announced their new iPhone OS 4.0 which will be shipping this summer for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G as well as the iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd generations (older models, not supported). Apple are saying that there are over 100 new features in the update, as well as about 1500 new API tools for developers. Let’s have a look at what is in there, starting with the big ones:

Multitasking

Finally, Apple caved in for the pressure and have added multitasking to the new OS. You can finally run multiple 3rd party apps at once. Just by double-clicking your home icon, a row pops up with your open icons, which you can also close from within there.

Not to drain your battery life too fast, Apple has made rules on only certain API types, when it comes to the multitasking, but you should be pleased to know that VoiP and background audio streaming is available, plus more!

You should note that only the iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch 3rd generation (late 2009) in sizes 32gb and 64gb (alas, not the 8gb) can handle multitasking and thus, the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd generation, will not have it.

Apple has invited some select members of the press to a special event tomorrow, April 8th to preview some upcoming things in the iPhone OS 4.0. My guess is that we might see a beta version of OS 4.0 released to developers tomorrow, as Apple has been known to do previously. In any case, it is going to be interesting to see what they are highlighting.

Tune back in here tomorrow to find out what Apple is announcing on their special event, which starts at 10 a.m Pacific Time.

1password-50x50

Agile Web Solutions have today announced that their 1Password app for the iPad is available in the App Store. You will now be able to sync over your passwords to have with you on the go at the iPad as well, making use of the big screen.

The 1Password for iPad application is available for $6.99 while an update, 1Password Pro 3.0 is available, containing both the iPad and iPhone version, which goes for $14.99 but is a free upgrade for current owners.

The above Apps are the iPad "only" Apps I've downloaded so far. Getting ready for tomorrow!

When I created BestAppSite.com there were already rumors that an Apple Tablet Device was coming. So I didn't want to restrict the site to just iPhone and iPod touch Apps. That was a good call! As I predicted, there will be Apps that work on both platforms AND Apps geared just for the iPad. Those iPad only Apps are starting to make their way onto the App Store. For example, I've been waiting for a Netflix branded App since day one. It never came for the iPhone, but it's now here for the iPad complete with movie streaming!

This is going to be a crazy weekend as Apple ships the first iPad model. I'll of course have coverage of the device itself on my tech blog, however as far as App reviews and news goes you're in the right place. BestAppSite.com will continue to focus on only the "Best" Apps for iPhone, iPod touch and now iPad! iPad App reviews will begin on Monday. Of course we'll continue to cover iPhone and iPod touch Apps as well and make a distinction in the review as to what platforms the Apps we review here support! Should be a fun ride :)

Amazon is not going out without a… "compromise"? It makes total sense from Amazon's perspective that if you can't beat them, join them. For Amazon I'm sure it's more about selling content than it is selling eBook readers. Selling the Kindle devices I'm sure was more about selling more content than it was about selling the actual hardware. So I'm not surprised at all to see the announcement of a "Kindle for Tablets" App. It was just last week when Amazon also announced the shipping of the long awaited Kindle App for Mac. So now you'll be able to take advantage of your Kindle books just about anywhere and for the customer that's the right thing to do. This also means seeing Kindle books in COLOR! Granted Kindles are less expensive than iPads, but iPads do so much more! I'm wondering if this is the beginning of the end of Amazon's Kindle hardware business?

This of course also begs the question, will Apple allow competing Book Reading Apps on the iPad? There was already a Kindle App for iPhone and there wasn't a problem with this because Apple didn't have an iBooks Store. Well now they do! So it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks. Is Apple more concerned about selling iPads or iBooks eBooks?

I travel all over North America and the World. Already being a fan of the Navigon GPS App for iPhone and iPod touch I have both the North America and Europe versions of the App. However, I can certainly see the needs of those that only travel regionally. You're in luck! Navigon has just released "MyRegion"  versions of their App! It makes sense. If you only drive in a certain area, why pay for the entire country?

Now you can get:

MyRegion US East – covering: (AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, IN, KY, MA, ME, MD, MI, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, Ri, SC, TN, VT, VA, WV) for an introductory price of $24.99

MyRegion US Central – covering: (AL, AR, CO, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NE, NM, ND, OH, OK, SD, TN, TX, WI, WY) for an introductory price of $24.99

MyRegion US West - covering: (AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NV, NM, OR, UT, WA, WY) for an introductory price of $24.99

Need a little more? Say two regions? No worries, just buy the main region you need and you can expand your coverage with an in-app purchase of up to two additional regions. So this way you can start with the main region you need, but add on later and only if you need to.

This is the kind of pricing that I felt these GPS Navigation Apps should have had all along! So don't hesitate. Jump on these introductory prices while the getting is good.

Also if you have an iPod touch or you just want a great Car Kit to go with your Navigon App, check out this one by Magellan.

HippoRemote, an application that lets you use your iPhone or iPod Touch as a WiFi remote control for Mac, Windows and Linux has today gotten updated to HippoRemote Pro 2.0.

New in this version is a browser plugin, integrating a web browser into the remote control app, a Twitter plugin, letting you browse your timelines and post updates, again, right form the app. In both of these cases, a third new feature called link launching, will help you to get web pages from the iPhone to your computer to browse there.

Many users will also be happy to note the new Boxee plugin, giving you a way to control the popular Boxee media center application using multi-touch gestures in their interface.

Other improvements include a landscape trackpad, more multi-touch gestures, global macros and user-generated profiles.

You can download the new release from the AppStore.
