Over here at Best App Site we pride ourselves in bringing you the best Apps on the market. Because of the nature of business, most Apps that are really good cost something. Before you fill our email box I know that there are a ton of Apps out there that are awesome and are free but most of those Apps are developed by large corporations like Facebook, or Google. That said, Navfree is the BEST free Navigation App that I have ever seen. One of our readers Bryce Allaire suggested this App to us, and I want to say thanks to Bryce for that! This App has most of the features that our favorite paid navigation App Navigon has, with the great price point of Free. If you've been looking for a turn by turn navigation App but haven't wanted to shell out the money, read on, this might be the App for you.

Almost Everything You'd Want

When I first fired up Navfree I wasn't expecting much more than a map that offered turn by turn directions. What I found was a really full featured App that had some things that I would consider must have's in a $30-$50 Nav App, but certainly wouldn't have expected them to be housed within a free version. Not only does Navfree offer Google search for points of interest, but it offers Facebook and Twitter location posts as well. There is access to your music right from the home screen, and a 2d option just a tap away. It has a standard navigate to address option, a point of interest option, as well as favorites, and recent destinations. Pretty much everything that you would expect in a turn by turn Nav App. Almost…

There are a few key things either missing all together or rough around the edges. First, there is no option to select a contact's address from your contact list. This is big for me because I have tons of contacts that I have yet to visit, however I have their address. I use this feature all of the time in my primary Nav App. The second thing I found a little lacking was the address input. There are times that I know the city, and I know part of the street name, but not all of it. Or sometimes I know the city and the street name but not exactly how to spell it. My favorite Nav App allows me to input the City name and as I'm typing the street name will show me all of the streets that start with that particular letter. This is huge for me because (and this is bad I know) I never really listen fully to people when they give me directions or addresses. If I do, I rarely ever write them down. So what usually happens is I remember kind of what the street name is but not exactly. You can see how this can lead to a problem. In Navfree's defense, it's free! If Navfree was what I was using on a day to day basis for navigation, I would probably start listening and writing down addresses. A couple of things Noted by Bryce who recommended this App to us. First, Bryce says that it didn't include any highway direction. It tells you that you're on highway i75 for example, but not in which direction you're going on that highway (it does however have a compass built in so I don't think this would be too big of a problem). Second, Bryce says that it doesn't know all of the toll roads. I can't confirm this as we don't have any toll roads in Cincinnati, but in my testing the App knew all of the road names around here so that was a positive sign.

Ads

You didn't think you get everything for free did you? Navfree has in App advertising in the form of banners. The good news? With an in App purchase for only $3.99 you can get rid of those ads.

Perfect for you?

Is this App the perfect Navigation App? Nope. It is however the absolute best one for free that I've found. If you are dead set on not paying $30-$50 for a turn by turn Nav App, but still want to know where you're going, Navfree is for you. All I would recommend is this; be sure to write all of your addresses down so you can fill them in to the App.

I love the Google maps application that comes preinstalled on the iPhone. Since Google powers it, it’s always updated, and almost always correct. That being said, I really, really like the CoPilot Live App. There is something to be said for a dedicated turn by turn, voice guided App. This App packs all of the things that you would expect from a GPS App, and more. It’s the “more” that earns it a place on the Best App Site, and a place in my navigation folder on my iPhone.

What you would expect

There are some things that a turn-by-turn GPS must have to make it functional. It must have an easy to use, easy to read interface. It must offer 3d as well as 2d driving modes. It absolutely has to have favorites, home, work, address, and points of interest (POI) options for destination input. I expect that the App will have the option of at bare minimum, walking as well as driving if not expanded beyond that to different types of vehicles. The App should allow you to access your contacts to obtain their addresses to use as destinations, it should also allow you to input intersecting streets. CoPilot does all of these things and more!

Upon launching the App you are greeted with a cheerful voice welcoming you to CoPilot live. You are then presented with a screen of options, your places, destination, quick stops, and more. Tapping any of these buttons will bring up a new menu easily, and quickly walking you through getting your destination chosen and you on your way. If you have used any kind of GPS interface, be it an App on your iPhone or a stand along GPS unit, you will feel right at home in this App. The GPS is quick to fix on your location even under cloudy conditions, and in my time testing this App the signal never dropped, ever. Once a destination has been chosen and you are under way on your trip, the turn-by-turn directions are timely, and precise. As with most others, this App gives you your next turn direction as well as distance from that turn on the lower left side of the screen.

	What I love

For me, I expect my GPS App to do multiple things. While I’m driving I often times connect to my radio via Bluetooth and listen to music off of my iPhone through my speakers, so when I saw that CoPilot has a music option, I was excited. This means that I can use my phone for music as I have been doing while I’m also using it for GPS. Sure, CoPilot is iOS 4.2 compatible (meaning it can run in the background while I’m using other applications) but if I use the built in music section of the App, when I’m approaching turns, lane changes, or my destination I have control over how the App handles the music. I can instruct the App to simply play the directions at the same level as the music, I can have the App lower the music level so the directions can be heard better, or I can tell the App not to voice the directions at all.
Built in search is very, very important to me. Often times I’m on my way to a destination and I realize that I have forgotten something, or maybe I want to stop for a bite to eat at a specific place. In version 8 (the current version) of CoPilot you receive a live local search option absolutely free. This is great! In previous versions it wasn’t free, so this is a big improvement on the App.
Often times when I’m driving in unfamiliar locations I get confused (even with a GPS) as to which lane goes where, both on the highway and when making turns on regular roads. Enter Lane assistance, and Clear turn by CoPilot. These two features are great! They give you a 3d view of what the lanes actually look like, and which one you should be on! This is one of the features that Terry loves about his favorite App Navigon which he reviewed here and now it’s also standard on the CoPilot live.
Another huge feature on CoPilot live is the speed limit warning. This warning is user customizable, meaning you can have it alert you when you’re so many MPH over (user defined MPH over), or turn it off entirely. This is great for me where I live. Here in Ohio we have long stretches of “country” roads where the speed limit is 45-55MPH then out of nowhere a small town comes into view where the speed limit is down to 35 or even 25. CoPilot live will alert you before you ever get close to the town. It’s a great feature to have and I can tell you it’s saved my butt a couple of times.

A couple of things to improve upon

Unlike the Navigon App that I mentioned earlier, CoPilot Live is not a universal binary. This means that you have to pay twice for this App if you want to have it on your iPhone, and iPad. I prefer universal binaries because I don’t like to have to keep track of two different versions of the same App in my iTunes library.
Second, to cancel a route, you have to dig a couple of menus in. There isn’t a place on the main screen or the menu screen. You have to go to menu-plan or edit trip-options then you can clear it. That’s way too much work. I want to hit menu and have a “cancel route” option.
Lastly is the way that you shut the App down. When you close out of it, the App doesn’t actually close. It’s still running in the background. This is great if you’re doing something else while in route to your destination, and want the GPS to run in the background. This isn’t so good however if you just want to close the App. I have found that if you don’t have a route programmed and you hit the home button to put the App in the background, it will close automatically after a few minutes. I want a button in the menu to exit the App.

Great App

Overall CoPilot Live is a great App, I wouldn’t be talking about it if it weren’t. It has a lot of features that I really like, and it works really well. If you’re in the market for a GPS App, CoPilot should at least get a second look from you. You just may find that you love it!

Being an early adopter of a few of these Apps and still really loving the Navigon App, I know that it's fierce competition in this market that makes it great for all of us. However, what do you do when someone offers Turn-by-Turn navigation for FREE? Hmmm. Well that's exactly what Mapquest Mobile has done! Now you have to keep in mind the difference here between an App like Navigon Mobile Navigator and Mapquest. Besides the price, Navigon includes the maps in the App itself. So no internet connection is required to use it. However, with Mapquest it's pulling everything in from the internet as you drive. For urban areas, that's probably not a problem, but for areas where you might lose your data signal you would also lose your navigation. Rather than go on and on about this App myself, I'd rather turn you over to the review that my buddy Jack Beckman wrote here. This is his first Navigation App for the iPhone and he compares it with his Garmin Nuvi 765t. See Jack's full review here.

I do enough traveling to have been named a Road Warrior by American Way Magazine, back in 2006. I'm also Jewish (Orthodox) and eat kosher. Put the two together and the result is me usually trying to figure out where I can grab a bite to eat as I travel the world. There's a great kosher restaurant database that you can find and search through at www.shamash.org, but the folks at Rusty Brick have created an app called Kosher which taps into the power of your iPhone.

The Kosher app is actually linked to the shamash.org database, so the listings are current, and when you launch the Kosher app, it connects to the database to update all listings. In the Kosher app, you can choose to either search for a specific restaurant, or my favorite feature — click the Find Near Me button. After detecting your GPS location, the Kosher app will list any kosher restaurants or food establishments in your vicinity. You'll get exact distances from where you are, basic information such as kosher certification (hashgacha), price, and even rating and comments from other travelers. With a single click you can call the restaurant or get a location and directions with Google maps.

In the past two weeks, Terry White and I have been traveling in Europe and I used this app to find a great kosher restaurant in Munich, Germany, and several great places in Paris, France. In addition, the app also sports a list of kosher certification logos and symbols, and even displays the proper blessings to recite before eating various kinds of foods.

Don't get me wrong, I believe they are working great and definitely improve GPS reception for navigation apps on the iPhone, it's just that at the current price it's hard to justify a car kit that basically goes for the same price as a full blown (low end) GPS unit. With that said, I'm not opposed to reviewing one if a company is generous enough to send me one and Magellan is just that kind of company

More details

Now that you've seen both the Magellan Car Kit and Magellan Roadmate 2010 iPhone/iPod touch App in action, let me give you a few more details and things that I experienced that weren't covered in the video.

Did you test the kit with any other apps? Yes, I used the kit with my iPhone 3GS and tested it with Navigon, NDrive and TomTom. All 3 apps performed great in the car kit with the enhanced GPS signal.

What else does the Magellan App offer? Aside from the basics such as Text to Speech, Lane Assist, Address Book lookup and POIs, the Magellan app also offers a "Find your car" features that remembers where you parked, In-App Music Control, Pedestrian Mode, and Quick Spell Address Entry

What about the speaker phone? I did try the speaker phone with my iPhone and I was pleasantly surprised that speaker phone integration is via bluetooth. As soon as I went to Bluetooth Settings on my iPhone, the Magellan Car Kit showed up and paired perfectly. As far as the call quality goes, it's "OK". My caller said that there was some "white noise". I could here them over the speaker just fine. My only complaint is that the Control button is on the back of the mount instead of the side. It just means that you have to reach that much further to press the button to accept/reject calls. The button does a nice job of activating the iPhone's Voice Control.

Get a Friction Mount (bean bag)

Although the Magellan Car Kit has a great suction cup, I still prefer using a Friction Mount. Here's the link to a generic one that will allow you to just use your existing suction cup on any dashboard.

The Bottom Line

If you can get past the price, then this Car Kit is definitely a great thing to have. After I got home from the first road test the first thing I thought was "I'm selling my Garmin!" The more I think about it, I'm always going to have my iPhone with me when I travel. The Navigation apps have definitely matured enough for me to use when I rent cars and since I'd be carrying my IPhone AND the Garmin and the mount, I might as well just carry the iPhone and Magellan car kit. If you're an iPod touch (2nd or 3rd generation) user then the Car Kit makes even more sense as it lets you do something that you otherwise couldn't do with your iPod touch. Also when you factor in that it's a handsfree bluetooth speaker phone, it makes it more valuable as well.

As far as the Magellan app goes it's definitely a contender for a great full featured Navigation app. I certainly rank it up there with Navigon and TomTom. One more thing: Save $20 when you buy the Magellan App and Car Kit. Although I'm not sure how they are implementing this, according to the Magellan page on the App Store you get $20 off of the Car Kit. I noticed that the price for the app at the time of this review was $79.99. So maybe that's the $20 savings, but if that's the case anyone can get that price. So this will require further investigation/clarification to see if you get it for $79.99 and then $20 off the Car Kit too.

You can order the Magellan Premium Car Kit here for $129.99.

I've tried a lot of different movie showtime apps! I do really like the features in Flixter, i.TV and the others. However, recently I went back to the first Movie Showtimes App I ever used.

What do I want in a Movie Showtime App?

All of the good Movie Showtime Apps out there all basically do the same thing. They are location based, they can show you the movie theaters in the area and of course show you the show times of movies playing in a particular theater. Beyond that each one has a feature here or there that the others don't have. For example, some let you buy your tickets right in the app. Some will offer Netflix queue management. Many will let you rate the movie after you've seen it and of course play trailers. They all miss the point! When I go to look for movie showtimes I've pretty much already decided on what I want to see. I've already decided where I'm going to see it (usually the same theater near my house 99.9% of the time!). So the only thing I'm interested in knowing is WHAT TIME(S) DOES THE MOVIE START? Sadly, In every other app I have tried to date, it's usually 2-3 taps minimum to get to this info. They usually want to start you with an Ad! Then you see a list of movies. Then you have to find the movie you want tap, it to get to the list of theaters. Then you finally get to the times. Of course they are not all this bad, but usually it's two or more taps to get to the one thing I want to know.

OneTap Movies – The Name Says It All!

OneTap Movies, like the name implies takes you right to your closest or Favorite theater and shows you what time the movies start at that theater. It's also great in that it doesn't waste time showing you times that have already past for the day.

Ads yes, but intrusive ads no! Another thing that many of these apps suffer from is that they pay for themselves with ad revenue. Usually that means that the user will have to click through an ad before getting to the listings. I'm happy that while OneTap Movies does have ads, they are banner ads that don't block the user from seeing the listings. Of course it doesn't always work out that the movie I want to see is available at during the time I have to go see it, not a problem because I can quickly scroll through the entire list of movies showing at that theater and make a plan B choice. Now if I'm out of town and decide to see a movie, no problem the theater that is closest to my current location will come up. I can even see exactly how far it is a way at a glance and click the map to get directions from where I happen to be staying. Since it uses the Maps app to deliver this info I also can tell how long it's going to take to get there so I can know if I have time to make the next showing.

How does it work?

Like I said, it's location based. So it will start with the closest theater. If there is a theater that you go to all the time you can tap the Star to mark it as a Favorite. So even if it's not the closest, it will still be listed at the top when you're in the area. The app also remembers where you left off each time you use it. So it really is "One Tap" to see your movie showtimes.

You get Reviews (including Rotten Tomatoes), Trailers, Critic Ratings, Movie Length, etc.

The Bottom Line

There are definitely apps out there that offer more. I have them! However, OneTap Movies is now my default choice (again) when I just want to know "what time does the movie start?" Usually that's what I'm launching the app for and for that it does it in One Tap! Other apps may offer more glitz and glamour, but this app does exactly what I want and the way I want it to. You can download OneTap Movies for the iPhone and iPod touch here at the App Store . It's FREE!

It wasn't long ago that I reviewed the TomTom Navigation App for the iPhone. At the time the only other app that I had to compare it with was the Navigon app, which came out first. When the TomTom app came out it really wasn't any better than the Navigon app. Sure there are some things that were nicer like more POIs, but overall the app had basically the same major limitations as the Navigon app. Well Navigon has released two updates since then and in the latest update they gave us TTS (Text to Speech) so that when you're approaching a turn it says the name of the street that you're about to turn on. This plus integrated iPod controls an automatic day/night mode and a few other fixes plus a cheaper retail price makes Navigon my app of choice. Check out the Navigon app here on the App Store:

However, all of these apps have the same problem and that is the relatively weak signal from the iPhone's GPS chip. This can't be fixed by software.

The TomTom Car Kit

I've been waiting for the TomTom Car Kit to ship. I felt that with this mount I would not only get a holder for the iPhone, integrated speakerphone and power, but I would get the much needed GPS signal booster that they promised. I was patiently waiting for the October shipping of this "kit" until I read all the reports that the car kit was going to cost $120!!!! Yes, and you guessed it, that doesn't include the app! I have one question….TomTom are you insane? Sure I know that it would be more convenient to carry one device (the iPhone) instead of two when I travel, but its the principle here. I can get a full blown GPS unit from any of the top GPS manufacturers (including, wait for it….TomTom) for around the same $120 you're charging for the "car kit" alone. It would be one thing if the $120 included a code to get the app, but it doesn't. Did it really require that much of an engineering effort to make an iPhone mount, charger, GPS signal boosting unit that you have to charge almost as much as you do for your own TomTom ONE XL-S that includes a mount AND charger?

A recent email survey - earlier this week I received an email as a registered user interested in their iPhone app. The Survey asked the usual kinds of questions you would expect about how I liked the app, features I would like to see, which ones I use, etc. Then the survey asked a lot of questions regarding the car kit and pricing. So perhaps TomTom is starting to realize that $120 is too much! We'll see.

UPDATE: The TomTom Car Kit has reappeared in the UK Apple Store:

The Bottom Line

I was really hoping that I would be able to just use my iPhone and the Navigon (or TomTom) app for my travel GPS. You can certainly use your iPhone with a standard mount such as this vent mount that I use and it will work! It's just that a mount with a GPS signal booster would make it BETTER! However, at this point I will continue to use my Garmin Nuvi 765t and beanbag mount or vent mount. I will also wait to see what the Navigon mount looks like (hopefully it's more than just a holder) and costs. It's not that I don't have $120 to spend, it's just hard to justify spending that on a mount when you can get a fully functional GPS unit, mount and charger that has more functionally for that price or less!

One of the things that I had originally dinged Navigon for in their GPS turn-by-turn navigation app was the lack of Text-to-Speech (TTS). This is the feature that tells you the name of the street you're about to turn on. ie. "Turn right on Maple Street". Well to keep the pressure on TomTom and others, Navigon just released their update as promised. They also added an Automatic Day/Night adjustment for adjusting the display for the time of day.

Now let's have Traffic Support and we'll be really good to go!

Navigon also recently announced that they were developing their own "car kit." Although the TomTom car kit seems that it will do more and offer the much needed GPS signal boost. Not to mention that the TomTom one will work with other apps besides TomTom (like the Navigon app). Both car kits are slated to ship in October. In the meantime I'm using this iPhone Vent Mount.

The Navigon app is now $69.99 and available here from the App Store.

One of the most anticipated 3rd party apps for the iPhone is here! A few weeks back I reviewed the first full featured turn-by-turn stand alone navigation app for the iPhone – the Navigon App. See that review here. Navigon kinda stole TomTom's thunder a little by being first to market. However, before I passed judgement (and recommend it) I wanted to see the TomTom app.

First off, like I said in my last review, I had no idea how much these apps were going to cost but the $69.99 introductory price seemed high to me. Well now that price seems like a bargain! The TomTom app came out at the full $99.99 price for the US/Canada version. I'm going to put aside the price right now and concentrate on the features of the app. We'll get back to the price at the end.

It works!

The TomTom app performs as I would have expected it to. The apps starts up a little slower than the Navigon app, but otherwise is very snappy. I must say that I like the layout and number of options in the TomTom app menus over that of the Navigon app. Also Navigon has an annoying habit of using really small fonts, the TomTom screens are very easy to read.

Points of Interest (POIs) also load very very quickly. I was stunned by the number of voices available in this app. You can have just about any voice you want including several just in the US language alone both male and female. No custom voices though.

See it in action

Rather than trying to explain how the app works, I recorded this video of a live demo of the TomTom app. Check it out. Caution: some parts are shaky.

What doesn't work?

You CAN control the volume: One of the first things I noticed was that the volume for the voice seemed very low. I looked hard trying to find a setting for the voice volume. I had given up, but I decided to do one more Google search and I finally found the magic way of adjusting the voice. You can adjust the volume using the hardware buttons on your iPhone. I know, I know – I tried that in the video and it didn't work. It does work, but it only works while the voice is speaking! If you adjust the volume even when you're in the app and it's not speaking, you'll be adjusting your ringer volume. If you either wait til it speaks or go to the voices and sample one and then adjust the volume then it will adjust the voice volume. I think this is a bad design especially since iPhone apps don't typically come with a manual. There is also one more way that makes it much nicer (thanks to DanielRules96's comment on my YouTube video). The hidden volume slider will display when you touch the blue bar on the screen below your map where your speed is located. An on screen slider will come up! Yay!

There were some other gotchas: like the Navigon app, the TomTom app doesn't have Text-to-Speech either. So it doesn't read the street names. Also when you reach your destination it doesn't tell you if it's on the right or left. There is no Traffic support in either the Navigon or TomTom app. Other reviewers are also complaining that unlike traditional TomTom GPS's you can't upload map corrections from their iPhone app. Since this is my first experience with TomTom, that doesn't phase me one way or the other. Probably the biggest let down for me with this app is the apparently lack of Lane Assist in this version of the app.

One potential bug! Both apps allow you to use the addresses in your Contacts to route to. However, many times the TomTom would display an error that it couldn't read the Contact address. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which addresses it has a problem with and which ones it doesn't.

It even gave me an error trying to set my Home address from my own Contact card. However, later choosing that same Contact card it was able to route to it no problem. I did go ahead and enter it manually the first time I got the error and I entered it the exact same way it was on the Contact card. So this definitely feels like a bug!

What about the car kit? As of the writing of this review, the TomTom iPhone Car kit, which includes a mount, charger, GPS signal booster and hands free calling hasn't shipped yet and there is no pricing on it yet. So it's hard to say what that will set you back? Having an integrated car kit (especially one that boosts the GPS signal) will definitely be a great plus on the TomTom side! However, according to this article it looks like the kit will also support OTHER 3rd party iPhone GPS apps and even allow the TomTom app to work on the iPod touch which doesn't have a GPS chip (but the mount does). If this is true, then the TomTom iPhone Car Kit won't be just an advantage for TomTom.

The Bottom Line

This is a tough one because there are things I like about both apps! Neither app is perfect! I definitely like the user interface of the menus of the TomTom app hands down over the Navigon app. However, I like the Navigon's map display better and the 3D reality view is killer!

My buying advice…

Both of these apps are relatively expensive (when you compare them to dedicated hardware GPS units for around the same price) and have room for improvement. Both apps are missing standard features of their hardware counter parts. Neither one stands out head and shoulders above the other. There are features in each one that the other doesn't have.

Now when it comes to entering your information/route, etc. I would have to again give the edge to TomTom for having more options and a better user interface.

So which one?

I would say at this point save $30 and go with the Navigon app (which has an introductory price of $69.99 until August 31st 2009). They are so close in functionality that it really comes down to personal preference in the user interface.

If you're reading this after the introductory price has passed and they are both $99.99, then I would probably go with……hmmmm, ummmm, wow… The Navigon app because I prefer its map display while you're driving. It's really a toss up on most features and short comings, but for me the Navigon 3D Reality View (lane assist) and layout of the Navigon map, audible warnings "Caution" when you go over the speed limit, and letting you know audibly that your destination is on the right or left make it my GPS navigation app of choice.

The TomTom map above just looks/feels dated to me.

The Navigon Map above and the 3D Reality View just feels a little more modern to me.

Also using both apps to route to the same location on the same Road and the same Exit:

The TomTom app on the left doesn't offer lane assist, the Navigon app on the right does!

What about my Garmin Nuvi?

My friend asked me "are either of these apps going to make it so that I don't have to carry my Garmin Nuvi 765t GPS anymore?" I'm going to have to say yes! I will give the apps more of a workout on my next business trip and I'll be leaving the Garmin behind. If I have a good experience with my iPhone being my only navigator, then the Garmin will be headed to eBay.

Here is the iPhone Vent Mount that I used.

You can download the TomTom app here from the App Store $99.99.

You can download the Navigon app here from the App Store for $69.99

Both of these apps ONLY work with iPhone 3G or 3GS because they have built-in GPS chips. The original iPhone and iPod touch does NOT. *NOTE – The TomTom Car Kit is rumored to make this app work with an iPod touch, so we'll have to see if it's true or not once the kit ships! When it does ship I'll be sure to give it a review. I am definitely looking forward to the GPS signal boost that it claims to offer.

UPDATE FAQ: There are a few questions I keep getting on these apps:

1) does the TomTom or Navigon app work on the original iPhone? The answer is no (not sure if the TomTom kit will change that) because the original iPhone doesn't have a GPS chip. So only the iPhone 3G or 3GS at this point.

2) do I need cell service to use this app? NO. Each of these apps is about 1.2GB to install. That's because the maps are installed with the app and therefore no cell service is required when they are in use. Just a clear view of the sky for the GPS signal.

3) Will I review other apps that are out there and what about AT&T's Navigation service? Yes, I will continue to review apps in this category. However, I have no plans to review the AT&T GPS service because it DOES require cell service to use it and when I travel I'm sometimes driving through areas where I lose signal. I wouldn't want to lose navigation too!

One of the apps I had been looking for was an App that would find the mid-point between two people for meetings. One of my blog readers pointed me to Midway, which was my iPhone App of the Week a couple of months ago. I really like Midway, however the one thing it was missing was the ability to enter a manual address. Well now I've found a new App called MeetMe that works just the way I want it to.

The concept is simple. You either use your current location, an address from one of your Contacts or an address that you enter manually as your Point A and Point B locations.

Then you choose a category for the type of meeting location that you want to meet at. MeetMe will then propose a list of locations between Point A and Point B.

You can even use an interactive slider that will pick locations closer to either Point.

Once you settle on a location, you can email directions from either Point or from both Points to anyone that you want to meet with.

The Bottom Line

This app has a great user interface and works as advertised. It's fantastic for meeting friends and family for social gatherings. By giving you the ability to enter an address manually it makes it perfect for use with Craig's List or eBay transactions. MeetMe is $1.99 from the App Store and works on the iPhone and iPod touch.
