Many of us started off the new year with resolutions about dieting and exercise. One thing I’ve found to be true is that it’s easier to lose weight by eating smaller, healthier meals throughout the day. One of programs I’ve used and am currently on (Medifast) means eating 6 times a day. Usually a meal every 2-3 hours. In the past I simply used the built-in iOS Alarms to remind me when it was time to eat and that’s fine as long as you stick to the alarms. However, it’s much easier to get off track unless the app is actually bugging you throughout the day not only with audible reminders, but also the ability to delay an alarm and have it actually keep track of which meals you’ve had such as 1st meal of the day, 2nd and so on. However, the biggest thing I like about Eatminder over the regular Clock App is that I don’t always eat at the exact times every day. With Eatminder I tap that “I just ate breakfast” and then it starts the countdown to the next meals from there. Also let’s say that due to a meeting or other activity that means you won’t be able to eat at your next scheduled time, you can go ahead and tap the “Got hungry…” button to indicate that you ate the next meal and to start the count down to the next meal at that point. This is much easier than trying to keep the regular alarms going.

Eatminder is GREAT, but there a couple of things I’d like to see. Sometimes I just can’t stop to eat. This is fine as Eatminder will keep reminding me every few minutes. However, it will stop reminding you if you let more than 30 minutes go by. When you go to the app at this point it will let you pick up where you left off, but you have to tell it what meal you just had instead of if simply using the normal count that’s built-in. Also as other reviewers have indicated it would be nice to have louder alarms. Otherwise Eatminder is well worth the price of admission and I depend on it daily.
