iPad Apps Are Here

The above Apps are the iPad "only" Apps I've downloaded so far. Getting ready for tomorrow!

When I created BestAppSite.com there were already rumors that an Apple Tablet Device was coming. So I didn't want to restrict the site to just iPhone and iPod touch Apps. That was a good call! As I predicted, there will be Apps that work on both platforms AND Apps geared just for the iPad. Those iPad only Apps are starting to make their way onto the App Store. For example, I've been waiting for a Netflix branded App since day one. It never came for the iPhone, but it's now here for the iPad complete with movie streaming!

This is going to be a crazy weekend as Apple ships the first iPad model. I'll of course have coverage of the device itself on my tech blog, however as far as App reviews and news goes you're in the right place. BestAppSite.com will continue to focus on only the "Best" Apps for iPhone, iPod touch and now iPad! iPad App reviews will begin on Monday. Of course we'll continue to cover iPhone and iPod touch Apps as well and make a distinction in the review as to what platforms the Apps we review here support! Should be a fun ride :)

iTunes 9.1 Update Adds iPad Support

Apple has updates iTunes to 9.1, giving it support to sync with the new and upcoming iPad which will be released in a few days. You will be able to store books in your library with the update, as well as actually have it recognize the iPad as a device.

If you are not getting the iPad, you can still enjoy the update as it allows you to rename, rearrange and remove Genius Mixes that you have created.

Kindle App for iPad

Amazon is not going out without a… "compromise"? It makes total sense from Amazon's perspective that if you can't beat them, join them. For Amazon I'm sure it's more about selling content than it is selling eBook readers. Selling the Kindle devices I'm sure was more about selling more content than it was about selling the actual hardware. So I'm not surprised at all to see the announcement of a "Kindle for Tablets" App. It was just last week when Amazon also announced the shipping of the long awaited Kindle App for Mac. So now you'll be able to take advantage of your Kindle books just about anywhere and for the customer that's the right thing to do. This also means seeing Kindle books in COLOR! Granted Kindles are less expensive than iPads, but iPads do so much more! I'm wondering if this is the beginning of the end of Amazon's Kindle hardware business?

This of course also begs the question, will Apple allow competing Book Reading Apps on the iPad? There was already a Kindle App for iPhone and there wasn't a problem with this because Apple didn't have an iBooks Store. Well now they do! So it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks. Is Apple more concerned about selling iPads or iBooks eBooks?

Navigon goes Regional at a Lower Cost!

I travel all over North America and the World. Already being a fan of the Navigon GPS App for iPhone and iPod touch I have both the North America and Europe versions of the App. However, I can certainly see the needs of those that only travel regionally. You're in luck! Navigon has just released "MyRegion"  versions of their App! It makes sense. If you only drive in a certain area, why pay for the entire country?

Now you can get:

MyRegion US East – covering: (AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, IN, KY, MA, ME, MD, MI, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, Ri, SC, TN, VT, VA, WV) for an introductory price of $24.99

MyRegion US Central – covering: (AL, AR, CO, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NE, NM, ND, OH, OK, SD, TN, TX, WI, WY) for an introductory price of $24.99

MyRegion US West - covering: (AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NV, NM, OR, UT, WA, WY) for an introductory price of $24.99

Need a little more? Say two regions? No worries, just buy the main region you need and you can expand your coverage with an in-app purchase of up to two additional regions. So this way you can start with the main region you need, but add on later and only if you need to.

This is the kind of pricing that I felt these GPS Navigation Apps should have had all along! So don't hesitate. Jump on these introductory prices while the getting is good.

Also if you have an iPod touch or you just want a great Car Kit to go with your Navigon App, check out this one by Magellan.

TomTom plays catch up

Although I'm largely a fan of the Navigon North America GPS Navigation App because of the frequent feature updates, I believe that the competition we're seeing amongst these GPS Navigation Apps benefits us all. The New TomTom update brings Real-TimeTraffic Updates (an In App purchase), Google Local Search (the ability to find more current points of interest and navigate to them – this does require an internet connection, an updated Map and Music Fading.

All in all a sound update and welcomed features and I'm glad to see the competition continue to heat up!
